Lakefront Progressives Network and the Illinois Democratic Women organize Voter Volunteer Training Day:
What’s at Stake in 2010?
In preparation for the November election, the Lakefront Progressives Network (formerly
Young Chicago Lakefront) and the Illinois Democratic Women are hosting a voter training day on Saturday, August 21, 2010.
Whether you are an avid voter or are voting for the first time, What’s at Stake in 2010? promises to give participants the tools and information needed to be an informed voter and civic activist.
“Illinois Democratic Women is working across the state to equip Democratic activists with the tools they need to help Democrats win this fall and in the years to come,” said Jamie Crain, first vice president of Illinois Democratic Women. “We are here to
increase participation in the electoral process. Whether you are a voter looking for more information on the issues or a resident looking to get more involved in the community, our training and panel has something to offer you.”
The day will begin with three voter volunteer training education sessions, including “Online Organizing: Campaigning in the 21st Century”, “Campus Organizing: Activating the Obama Voter” and “Field Direction Talking to Voters: The Who, When, How of Messaging”. Following the lunch break there will be a lively panel discussion addressing specific “hot button” issues for the fall election including: the economy, transparency in government, women’s issues, gay marriage and immigration. Experts from these respective areas will answer questions on how these important issues will play out in the fall election.
“We are extremely pleased to be working with the Illinois Democratic Women to bring this voter training day to Chicago. What’s at Stake in 2010? aims to give electoral power back to voters by providing them with insightful and relevant political information,”
said Aimee Ramirez, president of the Lakefront Progressives Network. “This event will provide tools for every voter who wants to be politically involved in their community.”
There is no cost to attend the day’s events, though registration is required. Participants are welcome to attend all or part of the training. Those interested in attending should contact Julie Khan at juliekkhan@gmail.com.
